The Choir

St Paul’s has an adult choir which plays a central role in the main Sunday service at 6.30pm each week, leading the congregational hymn and psalm singing and singing anthems.

Their repertoire ranges from plainsong to Tudor anthems and motets, to modern works.

The choir rehearses at 5.30pm, immediately prior to the service at which it sings. The one-visit-per-week commitment makes it ideal for those who would find committing to a weeknight rehearsal difficult, perhaps due to living some distance from the city centre, for example.

During the year there are a number of additional opportunities for the choir to sing, including a Requiem Mass for All Souls’ Day, an Advent Carol Service, and occasional joint events with other choirs both in St Paul’s Church and elsewhere. In April 2009 'Enchant' joined St Paul's choir to perform Maurice Duruflé's Requiem and a new work, 'Belief', by John Barber, in a concert for Good Friday

New members are always welcome. The ability to sight sing is not essential, but does help as rehearsal time is limited. St Paul’s is a beautiful Georgian church with one of the finest choral acoustics in Birmingham, in which it is a real joy to sing.
